What’s included?

8 workshops with The Actor’s Club a term

WORKSHOPSThe Actors Club consists of weekly workshops that are designed for professional actors to continue their training, and is an inspiring and vibrant space that encourages growth, experimentation, openness and authenticity. Every term and workshop is always different and each term the community explore a new theme. Actors work on scripts written by The Writer's Club in the sessions. Workshops are run by Artistic Director Heather Ward and other professional directors and practitioners within the industry, who are hired to run workshops on specific skills such as script work, voice work, physical theatre, audition prep etc.

Actors will also get the opportunity to work with directors and writers. It is a fantastic opportunity for actors to become a part of a growing community, to enhance their career development and expand their creative network. Actors in our club have built connections with directors and writers which has led to great projects and professional work.

Perform in rehearsed readings working with our writers and directors at top London theatres

REHEARSED READINGS WITH THE WRITERS CLUBActors within The Actor’s Club will get the opportunity to perform in rehearsed readings in Write to Right and work with directors from The Directors Club and writers from The Writers Club trying out new material and being an integral part in the creation of new work in its early stages of development.  The standard of writing is high, we find our writers when reading over 1500 scripts a year and inviting writers to join The Writers Club.

Cross-connection week - free workshops to join directors and writers

CROSS-CONNECTION WEEKJoin our writers and directors workshops once a term for free, to meet them and get a flavour of what they do and their craft - step into their shoes!

Bespoke scripts written for you at our end of term plays

WORK WITH BESPOKE SCRIPTS WRITTEN FOR YOU BY THE WRITERS CLUBWe partner writers with actors to write bespoke monologues and short scenes for the actors they are matched with.  This gives actors the opportunity to put forward ideas and work on scripts suited to their casting.  Collaborations formed in this way often inspire and spark new ideas for projects and lead to future collaborations.

Perform in showcase

Members of The Actor’s Club get the opportunity to work with new writers and directors in showcases at Southwark Playhouse (if in the London community) or Komedia, the winner of best venue in the East and West of South England (if in the Brighton community).  There may also be opportunity for cross-overs where actors from either London or Brighton and invited to take part in shows in different locations if desired. Actors are also encouraged to create their own material (e.g writing) and have these showcased as part of our hit show Art from the Heart.

Community & support

In a competitive industry where rejection is common it can be hard for artists to keep spirits and confidence high and to find a time and place to regularly practice their craft. The Actor’s Club is designed to provide just that – a support network of actors who come together regularly to develop and utilise their skills amongst other talented artists. Throughout the term there will be a continuous stream of activities and support. Every month we send out to members a newsletter with all the shows and events our members are doing, so we can support each other in our theatre ventures! We also organise socials and get discounted theatre trips with certain plays produced by our theatre partners.

Bonus benefit:

Open Stage - opportunity to be cast in our Open Stage programme

OUR SCHEME THAT CONNECTS ARTISTS ON PROJECTS TO WORKSHOP A SCRIPT, OR IDEAWe encourage artists within our artistic community to connect and work together. We match actors, writers and directors on a project to workshop it, facilitated by one of our directors.  Many projects have gone on to have a future life from one of these workshops!  Open Stage scheme is supported by theatres Southwark Playhouse, Theatre Royal Stratford East, Rose Kingston, Park Theatre and Pleasance Theatre to support our directors, writers and actors by providing rehearsal space every month for them to workshop a script, idea or technique they are developing as practitioners.  More on the scheme can be found HERE.
