The Film Squad is a new programme, inspired by the success of The Film Club we ran in 2021, that was born after our artistic community of theatre makers became a film community in 2020 during the global pandemic and lockdown, where over 100 artists each term came together to take part in online workshops across the globe, developing skills and making short films. Inspired by this explorative and exciting journey.
"Stay Outta Sight" (SOS) was a no-budget collaborative short film project created by members of the Director's Cut Theatre Company film club during one term!
All groups attended a series of film-making workshops followed by creation time of their short films.
Filmed in an almost empty office in Margate, the film shows sinister messages appearing on every computer screen and mobile phone: Do Not Go Outside. Do Not Look Out Your Window. Stay Outta Sight. Was it real or a workmates' prank? Who do you trust – the people that surround you or your own lying eye?
Shown as part of the DC End of Term Films on You Tube, it received such high reviews that they decided to enter it into festivals with great success! It was a Quarter Finalist at the Big Apple Festival in New York and won a Silver Award for Best Indie Short at the London Movie Awards.
Since then, Simon and Anya have worked together with Teresa Espejo to film another short film, "Happy Hour", written by Linda Morse from the writers club starring actors from the London and Brighton group with supporting artists from the whole DC community. The festival circuit has seen it winning an award for Best Screenplay at the Rob Knox Film festival and Best Thriller Short at the Big Fridge Film Festival shown at the Curzon Cinema in Soho. Simon and Teresa have now released a trailer for their new film 1992 which will be starting their festival run soon!
Actor and Producer Anya Sayadian said that she was "So absolutely grateful to Director's Cut Theatre Company for bringing our award winning team together during the DC Film club. It's certainly stretched my producing and casting skills, providing other creative strings to my bow. So proud of what we have achieved and who knows what other projects it might lead to!"
