Director’s Cut was founded by theatre maker and practitioner Heather Ward in 2015.
It is an adventurous, open, imaginative and experimental theatre company, making art, telling stories, and providing a space for artists to come together to explore art, life, questions, quests, exploring and developing their craft and creativity, and being connected, inspired and supported in their artistic journey.
An idea, a desire, an instinct. Inspiration can be found everywhere, in everything and everyone. Director’s Cut tell emotive, passionate and compelling stories that connect us as humans, to our own voice and to the voices of others.
Director’s Cut are home to The Club, and have created artistic communities in The Director’s Club (Southwark Playhouse), The Writer’s Club (Calder Bookshop & Theatre) and The Actors’ Club (Park Theatre).
The community meet three times a year for 2 months of creativity each season, with new and returning artists. Much of our community have been on the journey with us for years and have found a home to evolve and belong.
Artistic Director Heather Ward takes the artistic community on a different journey every chapter, aligning artists across the community, expanding their artistic language and approach. She develops and experiments with new techniques, processes and forms, exploring ways of making theatre and performing, and empowering artists to discover their creative desires that inform and shape their artistic work. These workshops are designed for artists to draw upon their intuition bringing forth fresh discoveries through the invitations they are given. Each term is a completely new theme, encouraging questions and curiosity to lead the path into the great treasure hunt of investigation and discovery.
In the club, the artists in Director’s Cut engage in practices that cultivate the community spirit that make it so unique, special and harmonious.
Director’s Cut is a tremendous support network full of highly talented people that will champion you on.
