The Actor’s Club
THE ONLY CLUB FOR PROFESSIONAL ACTORS
Weekly virtual workshops on Mondays 2pm-4:30pm and Wednesdays 3pm – 5:30pm or 7pm -9:30pm with The Actors Club, with the additional opportunity to meet in person at Southwark Playhouse for other projects we run, with directors, writers and actors, in small groups of up to 6 (following government guidelines).
The Actor’s Club is a club like no other, where professional actors can connect with their peers, to refine and develop their skills, be supported and inspired.
BE A PART OF A STRONG NETWORK
In a competitive industry where rejection is common it can be hard for artists to keep spirits and confidence high and to find a time and place to regularly practice their craft. The Actor’s Club is designed to provide just that – a support network of actors who come together regularly to develop and utilise their skills amongst other talented artists. Throughout the term there will be a continuous stream of activities and support.
TRAINING FROM PROFESSIONAL DIRECTORS
The Actors Club will consist of weekly workshops on Mondays 2pm – 4:30pm and Wednesdays 3-5pm or 7-9pm via Zoom. Every week will be different, full of creativity, challenges and imagination. Workshops are run by Artistic Director Heather Ward and other professional directors and practitioners within the industry, who are hired to run workshops on specific skills such as script work, voice work, audition prep etc. The Actor’s Club is a club for practical work – where experimentation, ideas and new techniques are tried and tested.
Actors will also get the opportunity to work with members of The Directors Club; the theatre makers of the future. It is a fantastic opportunity for actors to become a part of a growing community, to enhance their career development and expand their creative network. Actors in our club have built connections with directors which have led to paid work on other theatrical projects.
REHEARSED READINGS WITH THE WRITERS CLUB
Actors within The Actor’s Club will get the opportunity to perform in rehearsed readings in Write to Right which takes place via Zoom, and work with writers from The Writers Club trying out new material and being an integral part in the creation of new work in its early stages of development. The standard of writing is high, we find our writers when reading over 1500 scripts a year and inviting writers to join The Writers Club.
ENCOMPASS – OUR SCHEME THAT CONNECTS ARTISTS ON PROJECTS TO WORKSHOP A SCRIPT, OR IDEA
We encourage artists within our artistic community to connect and work together. We match actors, writers and directors on a project to workshop it, facilitated by one of our directors. Many projects have gone on to have a future life from one of these workshops! For this scheme, this term we’ll be able to offer the opportunity to get back into the rehearsal room at Southwark Playhouse with groups of up to 6 people, following government guidelines.
WORK WITH BESPOKE SCRIPTS WRITTEN FOR YOU BY THE WRITERS CLUB
We partner writers with actors to write bespoke monologues and short scenes for the actors they are matched with. This gives actors the opportunity to put forward ideas and work on scripts suited to their casting. Collaborations formed in this way often inspire and spark new ideas for projects and lead to future collaborations.
PERFORM IN OUR ONLINE SHOWS THAT ARE LIVE STREAMED
Actors in The Actors Club will be cast in our online shows, written by members of our writers club and directed by members of the directors club. Actors are also encouraged to create their own material (e.g writing) and have these showcased as part of the Art from the Heart showcase.
