DIRECTOR’S CUT THEATRE COMPANY IN PARTNERSHIP WITH SOUTHWARK PLAYHOUSE HOST:
The Director’s Club
Supporting the early careers of the theatre makers of tomorrow!
The Directors Club is the only club for theatre directors in the UK, and Europe, of its kind. A place that offers training, through a supportive and strong growing community which enables theatre makers an abundance of opportunities to discover their potential in a practical environment.
Director’s Cut runs the support group The Director’s Club, for new and emerging directors who want to refine their skills through learning, experience and development.
The Director’s Club workshops take place weekly on Thursday evenings 7-9pm, virtually via Zoom, with the opportunity to meet in person with actors and writers, for other projects we run, in small groups of up to 6 (following government guidelines). Details below!
DEVELOPING SKILLS & NETWORKING
The Director’s Club is designed to nurture talent, create a space to grow and provide new Director’s with a strong support network. The group meet weekly virtually via Zoom, giving each director the opportunity to run exercises, workshops and direct within the group, to provide and receive feedback and to gain and share skills, techniques, and experience.
TRAINING FROM PROFESSIONALS
Director’s Cut Theatre Company hire professional directors and practitioners to run workshops with The Director’s Club to share their knowledge and experience. Not only is this a great way to learn and develop skills, it is also an excellent opportunity to connect with directors working in the industry. Heather Ward, Artistic Director & Producer of Director’s Cut runs workshops throughout the term getting to know the directors abilities and offers mentoring to assist them in their goals.
Previous workshops have included directors Mike Leigh, Dominic Cooke, Stephen Unwin, and Rikki Beadle-Blair to name a few.
FORM CONNECTIONS WITH THE WRITER’S CLUB AND THE ACTORS CLUB
Directors in The Director’s Club get the opportunity to work on scripts written by members of The Writers Club and direct professional actors from The Actors Club in our Write To Right nights, which now takes place virtually, as well as many other projects, including workshops and events that connect artists across these clubs.
ENCOMPASS – OUR SCHEME THAT CONNECTS ARTISTS ON PROJECTS TO WORKSHOP A SCRIPT, OR IDEA
We encourage artists within our artistic community to connect and work together. We match actors, writers and directors on a project to workshop it, facilitated by one of our directors. Many projects have gone on to have a future life from one of these workshops! For this scheme, this term we’ll be able to offer the opportunity to get back into the rehearsal room at Southwark Playhouse with groups of up to 6 people, following government guidelines.
DIRECT FOR OUR ONLINE SHOWS THAT ARE LIVE STREAMED
Directors in The Directors Club will direct short pieces for our online shows, written by members of The Writers Club and performed by members of The Actors Club. Directors are also encouraged to create their own material (e.g writing or experimenting with an idea for a short film for example) and have these showcased as part of the Art from the Heart showcase.
